CHANCERY NOTICE

 

I. ASH WEDNESDAY (February 14)

All faithful who have completed their 14th year are to abstain from meat.

Those who have completed their 18th year but have not yet begun their 60th year are also obliged to fast.

The faithful, by reason of attending the Lunar New Year dinner or other festivities which are anticipated, may perform works of charity or other suitable forms of penance in place of fasting or abstinence. 

 

II. LUNAR NEW YEAR (FEBRUARY 16)

The Mass in Chinese for Lunar New Year Day (for Season of Lent) may be celebrated. (See 《農曆新春禮儀》, pp. 10-14).

 

III. RITE OF ELECTION

The Rite of Election of Candidates for the Sacraments of Christian Initiation is to be held, as usual, on the First Sunday of Lent (February 18).

To meet pastoral needs, this Rite may be deferred to the Second Sunday of Lent (February 25).

 

 IV. FUND-RAISING FOR COUNCIL OF THE LAITY

On Sunday, February 25, a second collection in support of the apostolates and formation programmes of the Hong Kong Central Council of Catholic Laity is to be taken up at all public Masses.

Cheques should be made payable to “Hong Kong Central Council of Catholic Laity” and sent directly to its Secretariat at 1, Tai Shek Street, Sai Wan Ho, Hong Kong.
