CARDINAL JOHN TONG RETIRING AND

MOST REV. MICHAEL YEUNG SUCCEEDING AS BISHOP OF HONG KONG

 

In June 2014, on receiving the request of Cardinal John TONG to resign as Bishop of Hong Kong on the ground of reaching the retirement age of seventy-five (cf. Canon 401§1), Pope FRANCIS decided that the Cardinal was to remain in office for three more years.  With the three-year term coming to a close, Pope Francis has disposed that with effect from today, i.e., 1 August 2017, Cardinal John TONG will retire and the Most Reverend Michael YEUNG Ming-cheung, Coadjutor, is to succeed him as diocesan Bishop in accordance with Canon 409§1.

 

The personnel of the Diocesan Curia will for the time being remain unchanged until further notice.

 

Bishop Michael YEUNG will meet with the community leaders of Hong Kong at a cocktail reception to be held on 7 August 2017 (Monday) at 5:00p.m. at the Caritas Community Hall, 5/F, Caritas House, Caine Road. (Note: Attendance by invitation.  No parking spaces will be available for guests outside Caritas House.)

 

 

APPOINTMENTS AND TRANSFERS

 

Bishop Michael YEUNG has made the following appointments:

 

(i)     Effective 2 August 2017

 

Rev. Francis Xavier WONG Kwan-yau (ordained on 29 July 2017) is to be appointed Assistant Parish Priest in St. Margaret Mary’s Parish, Happy Valley, Hong Kong.

 

Rev. Vincent WOO Wan-shun (ordained on 29 July 2017) is to be appointed Assistant Parish Priest in St. Mary’s Parish, Hunghom, Kowloon.

 

Rev. Arjay VENUS, SVD, is to be appointed Assistant Parish Priest in Holy Family Parish, Choi Hung Estate, Choi Wan Estate, Kowloon.

 

 

(ii)    Effective 10 August 2017

 

Rev. James D. McAULEY, MM, currently Assistant Parish Priest in St. Joseph’s Parish, Central District and Mid-Levels, Hong Kong, is to be appointed Parochial Administrator of the same parish for the period from 10 August to 31 October 2017 .

 

 

 

(iii) Effective 15 August 2017

 

Rev. Czeslaw George WOJCIECHOWSKI ceases to be Assistant Parish Priest in St. Andrew’s Parish, Tseung Kwan O, Kowloon; he will return to his home country and will take up a new assignment in his own diocese.

 

Rev. Mechelle T. REGINIO, CICM, is to be appointed Assistant Parish Priest in the above-mentioned St. Andrew’s Parish.

 

 

(iv)   Effective 1 September 2017

 

Rev. Joseph FUNG Che-ho ceases to be Parish Priest of Resurrection Parish, Kwun Tong, Kowloon; he will be given a new assignment after further studies abroad.

 

Rev. Terrance MASCARENHAS, SVD, ceases to be Parish Priest of Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish, Shun Lee, Shun On, Shun Chi Court, Kowloon, and is to be appointed Parish Priest of the above-mentioned Resurrection Parish.

 

Rev. Pierre DEVOS, CICM, ceases to be Assistant Parish Priest in St. John the Baptist Parish, Kwun Tong, Kowloon, and is to be appointed Parish Priest of the above-mentioned Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish.

 

Rev. Matthew KONG, BMC, ceases to be Assistant Parish Priest in Mother of Good Counsel Parish, San Po Kong, Kowloon, and is to be appointed Parish Priest of St. John the Apostle Parish, Sheung Kwai Chung, New Territories.

 

Rev. Paolo CERUTI, PIME, is to be appointed Assistant Parish Priest in the above-mentioned Mother of Good Counsel Parish.

 

Rev. Heribertus HADIARTO, SVD, is to be appointed Assistant Parish Priest in St. Edward’s Parish, Lam Tin, Kowloon.

 

Rev Deacon HOANG Van Hien, SDB, is to assist in the pastoral ministry in Resurrection Parish, Kwun Tong, Kowloon.

 

 

(v)    Effective 18 September 2017

 

Rev. Reginaldus AMLENI, SVD, ceases to be Assistant Parish Priest in St. Edward’s Parish, Lam Tin, Kowloon; he will take a study leave abroad by the arrangement of his own Superior.

 

 

 

(vi)   Effective 1 November 2017

 

Rev. Joseph TAN Lei Tao, SVD, is to be appointed Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s Parish, Central District and Mid-Levels, Hong Kong.
