CHANCERY NOTICE


I. CONCERN FOR THE DEMOCRATISATION OF THE HONG KONG SAR

Bishop Stephen CHOW, S.J., is appealing to the faithful to take part in the Legislative Council General Election to be held on 19 December 2021 (Sunday) in accordance with the dictates of their conscience and the social teachings of the Church, and under the enlightenment of the Gospel. However, parishes, Church organisations, clerics as well as men and women religious may not publicly, either directly or indirectly, as an individual or as a community, lobby for, endorse or oppose any particular candidate or political party/group in the name of the Catholic Church.

During Mass on that Sunday, the faithful are to pray that God will guide the Hong Kong SAR towards full democratisation.

II. WORLD DAY OF PEACE

The Catholic Church will celebrate the 55th WORLD DAY OF PEACE on Saturday, 1 January 2022. The main theme is: “Education, Work and Dialogue between Generations”.

In response to the Holy Father’s appeal to promote world peace, Bishop Stephen CHOW, S.J., will on this occasion preside at a special Mass at the Cathedral at 10:00 am. Both clergy and laity are cordially invited to participate. The special Mass will be broadcast live at the diocesan website: www.catholic.org.hk.

Parishes are to follow the Proper of the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God for the eucharistic liturgy on 1 January. They are also urged to pray for world peace.

III. APPOINTMENTS AND TRANSFERS

Bishop Stephen CHOW, S.J., has made the following transfer and appointments:

Rev. Deacon Dominic FUNG King-ho, OMI, is to assist in the pastoral ministry in St. Alfred’s Parish, Shatin, New Territories, effective 19 December 2021.

Rev. Martin CHEN Guo Xing, OP, is to be appointed Assistant Parish Priest in St. Joseph’s Parish, Kowloon Bay, Kowloon, effective 1 January 2022.

Rev. Denes Fernando COSTA da SILVA, SVD, ceases to be Assistant Parish Priest in St. Peter’s Parish, Aberdeen, Hong Kong, effective 1 January 2022; he will be given a new assignment by his own Superior.

IV. THE HONG KONG CATHOLIC BOARD OF COMMUNICATIONS
