CHANCERY NOTICE

PRAYING FOR PEACE BETWEEN RUSSIA AND UKRAINE

AND FOR AN END TO THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

In order that the war between Russia and Ukraine may be settled as soon as possible through peaceful channels, Pope Francis is appealing to the Catholic faithful worldwide to join him in consecrating these two countries to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on March 25 (Friday, Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord) at midnight (Hong Kong time).  The Act of Consecration will be accompanied by the recitation of the Rosary (http://youtu.be/HpwW14ymo_4).

In response to the appeal of the Holy Father, Bishop Stephen CHOW, S.J., exhorts the faithful and the clergy, in communion with the Holy Father, to invoke the intercession of Our Lady.  That evening, at 9:30 pm, at the website of Boiling Point (http://www.facebook.com/YouthBoilingPoint/), the Bishop will say the Rosary with a group of young people, while other members of the faithful are invited to join them online.  At the end of the rosary, the Bishop will recite the prayer of consecration and impart a blessing to those who have taken part in the rosary.

Also on March 25, at noon (12:00), the Catholic faithful, with Christians from other Churches and Ecclesial Communities worldwide invited by the Holy Father, will recite the Lord’s Prayer together, imploring our Heavenly Father to bring an end to the Coronavirus pandemic currently afflicting the global human family.  Bishop CHOW calls on the Catholic faithful in Hong Kong to give support to this joint effort for the wellbeing of mankind by praying the Lord’s Prayer at the scheduled time and to repeat it, as recommended by the Holy Father, several times with fellow Catholics during that day.

Priests are asked to add the intentions for world peace and the ceasing of the pandemic at every Mass on March 25.

Given at the Chancery Office,

23 March 2022
