CHANCERY NOTICE

I.ST. PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION

It is the practice for Catholics all over the world to make yearly offerings to the Holy Father to help him carry out his manifold services to the universal Church. In our Diocese, a second collection in support of this purpose is to be taken up at all public Masses on Sunday, 15 January 2023.

The Holy See is very grateful for the financial support given by our Diocese in the past, but it is appealing for an even more generous support from us in view of its enormous expenses.

Cheques issued for the above specific purpose should be made payable to “The Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong” and sent to the Diocesan Procuration.

III.WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY

The Catholic Church and the other Churches and Ecclesial Communities will jointly celebrate the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity from 18 January (Wednesday) to 25 January (Wednesday) 2023. The theme for this year is: “Do good; seek justice” (cf. Isaiah 1:17).

Reference material will be sent to all parishes, Mass centres, religious communities and Catholic schools by the Diocesan Ecumenical Commission. (See also item IV below.)

IV.SUNDAY OF THE WORD OF GOD AND LUNAR NEW YEAR’S DAY —JANUARY 22

This year, January 22, the Third Sunday in Ordinary time, coincides with the Lunar New Year’s Day. On this occasion, Bishop Stephen CHOW, S.J., has granted permission for the eucharistic celebration to be held in one of the following ways:

(1) celebrating the Sunday of the Word of God by adopting the liturgy of the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time and with the Word of God as main theme;

(2) adopting the special liturgy for Sunday after Lunar New Year’s Day (English liturgical text available at website link: http://catholic-dlc.org.hk/lunar_NY_Sun_e.doc).

In both of the above-mentioned options, a special prayer intention for Christian unity should be added.

Given at the Chancery Office,

26 December 2022.

Rev. Lawrence LEE

Chancellor
