With the approval of Cardinal John TONG, Rev. Francis MFESAO BAKONGO, CICM, ceases to be Assistant Parish Priest in Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Pokfulam, Hong Kong, with effect from 1 January 2016; he will be given a new assignment by his own Superior.
II. LUNAR NEW YEAR LITURGY
All Masses on Lunar New Year’s Eve (7 February 2016, Sunday), may either adopt the special liturgy provided by the booklet entitled “Lunar New Year Liturgy” (in Chinese, published by the Diocesan Liturgy Commission, pp. 1-5), or the Proper of the 5th Sunday of the Year.
On Lunar New Year’s Day (8 February, Monday), all Masses may adopt the special liturgy found in the aforementioned booklet, pp. 6-9.
III. ASH WEDNESDAY (10 February)
As this year Ash Wednesday (10 February) falls on the third day of the Lunar New Year, the faithful are dispensed from fast and abstinence on that day in accordance with our diocesan regulation. However, they are obliged to choose for themselves some other suitable forms of penance or perform some works of charity, in keeping with the penitential spirit of the season of Lent.
To meet pastoral needs, the rite of the giving of ashes may take place during the Stations of the Cross held immediately after Ash Wednesday. In accordance with liturgical tradition, this rite should not be held on a Sunday.
IV. RITE OF ELECTION
The Rite of Election of Candidates for the Sacraments of Christian Initiation is to be held, as usual, on the First Sunday of Lent (14 February). To meet pastoral needs, the Rite may be postponed to the Second Sunday of Lent (21 February).
Given at the Chancery Office,
18 January 2016.
