Neocatechumenal Way

Community in Hong Kong

Objective: The Neocatechumenal Way began in the early 60’s in the slums of Madrid, initiated by Kiko Argúello and Carmen Hernandez, and was endorsed by the Archbishop of Madrid then, Casimiro Morcillo. It has now spread globally over 900 Dioceses in 105 Nations.

The nature of the Neocatechumenal Way was defined by Pope St. John Paul II when he wrote: “I recognize the Neocatechumenal Way as an Itinerary of Catholic Formation, valid for our society and for our times”.

The Neocatechumenal Way is at the service of local bishops, as one of the forms of diocesan implementation of Christian Initiation and for on-going post-baptismal education.

The Neocatechumenal Way, evolves in small communities, which continue on an itinerary of faith supported by the Tripod of the Word of God and the Holy Eucharist celebrated weekly in the Community, and monthly, a Convivence among brothers and sisters.

THE COMMUNITY OF SANT’ EGIDIO

THE COMMUNITY OF SANT’ EGIDIO

The Community of Sant’Egidio, which was found by Andrea Riccardi in Rome in 1968, is a “Church Public Lay Association” recognised by the Pontifical Council for Laity on May 18th, 1986. The different communities, spread throughout the world, share the same spirituality and principles which characterise the way of Sant’Egidio:

Objects:

1. Prayer: is an essential part of the life of the community in Rome and communities throughout the world. Prayer is central to the overall direction of community life.

2. Communicating the Gospel: is the heart of the life of the Community. It is offered to all those who seek and ask for a meaning for their life.

3. Solidarity with the poor: is lived as a voluntary and gratuitous service, in the evangelical spirit of a Church that is the “Church for all and particularly the poor” (Pope John XXIII)

4. Ecumenism: is lived as friendship, prayer and search for unity among Christians of the whole world.

5. Dialogue: was recommended by Vatican II as a way of peace and co-operarion among religions, and also a way of life and as a means of resolving conflicts.
