簡介Hijra is a term used in South Asia – in particular, in India – to refer to transwomen (male-to-female transsexual or transgender individuals). In other areas of India, transgender people are also known as Aravani, Aruvani or Jagappa. Hijras have a recorded history in the Indian subcontinent from antiquity onwards as suggested by the Kama Sutra period. This history features a number of well-known roles within subcontinental cultures, part gender-liminal, part spiritual and part survival.

題目CONSULTATION PAPER: PART 1 GENDER RECOGNITION

簡介There are people in society who have the feeling that they were born into the wrong body. Through services provided by the Hospital Authority, there are a range of treatment options available in Hong Kong for people having gender identity disorder or gender dysphoria. As well as emotional and physical issues, people with gender identity disorder or gender dysphoria might face complex social and legal issues. They may want to keep their birth gender private and be legally recognised in their new gender for all purposes. In May 2013, the CFA ruled in W’s case that a transsexual person who had undergone full SRS should be entitled to marry a person of the sex opposite to his or her reassigned gender. In response, the Government established the Inter-departmental Working Group on Gender Recognition (“IWG”) on 13 January 2014 to follow up on the said observations of the CFA. For the avoidance of doubt, it should be noted from the outset that same-sex marriage or civil partnership is outside the scope of the IWG’s study.

簡介Transgender, often shortened as trans, is an umbrella term; in addition to including people whose gender identity is the opposite of their assigned sex (trans men and trans women), it may also include people who are non-binary or genderqueer. Many transgender people experience gender dysphoria, and some seek medical treatments such as hormone replacement therapy, sex reassignment surgery, or psychotherapy. In many places, they are not legally protected from discrimination.
